4 stars - It was really goodExecutive assistant Harlow Carlson is having a bad week. She is reassigned to work for the bossy and sexy tyrant Easton Norcross, her father is in trouble and has gone missing, and she has been attacked on her way home. While he may be a workaholic, Easton steps up to keep her safe and help her find her father.I rarely read office romances but this one really worked for me. Easton Norcross finds his new assistant extremely sexy, organized, and also very sassy. He keeps her at a distance until she gets attacked on her way home. After that he refuses to deny his feelings and will do anything to protect her. Harlow was perfect for Easton because she stands up to him and is constantly pushing his buttons. Easton was the standard protective alpha male with some scars from his past. He could also be surprisingly sweet at times, which really made me love him more.Harlow is a very efficient and independent woman. Her upbringing has taught her to take care of herself and not to rely on anyone. She struggles to allow Easton, and the rest of the Norcross siblings, to help him with the threat against her father. Harlow is a heroine that I instantly fell in love with. I just loved how efficient, smart, and sassy she was. She also wasn’t afraid to fight back if she needed to or to put herself in danger.This was just a great addition to the series. Harlow and Easton had a very steamy and suspenseful relationship that hooked me from the beginning. I couldn’t put the book down really. Harlow is sassy and single-minded, while Easton is a tough ex-ranger with a marshmallow center. It's sexy, it's fun, & has lots of action. Come along for the ride as Harlow tries to save her dad from himself, and his gambling debts, while falling head over high heels for Easton. We've also got multiple mafia-like players in a convoluted high stakes poker game, with an additional wild card, and an adorable pickpocket - who I now want to adopt.I love just about everything AH writes, because she's just that good at creating storylines that suck you in. It's another wonderful series to add to my ongoing collection of EVERYTHING she's written. Yes, I own it all, lol! There is nothing that she writes badly - including this series.I'm going to explain this poorly, because I just can't seem to figure out the right way to get my feelings across. However, while I like the Norcross series, the "billionaire" stuff with expensive cars, designer shoes, and near constant mention of wealth, just isn't MY thing. This series is very much a "rescue the little woman series", though Harlow doesn't hesitate to try to help Easton, even going so far as throw herself in way of a bullet.I simply prefer a strong heroine who can rescue herself, and can plan and adapt. I'm missing that in THIS series. It could be I'm spoiled by the strong ladies of her previous Hell Squad, Galactic Gladiators, and Team 52 series, lol!I'll keep buying and reading Norcross, because it IS a good read, but I'm longing for some tough, smart, and wild and ready ladies who can hold their own, and back up their men, or rescue THEM.
