Okay I need to start this review by saying that you can’t compare this book to book 2. There is no comparison. Each book in the series has completely different characters and coming from one writer, that is amazingly talented. Book 2 is my favorite in the series, it’s one of my favorite books EVER. Comparing this book to book 2 would be pointless and unfair.So this book was undeniably sweet!!! Ryan is so so amazing and he deserves the WORLD! Do you hear me?? The entire world- I want to lay it at his feet and beg it to be enough. He is so honest, considerate, and he broke my heart with his gentle soul and put it back together with his courage. He is why this book is 5 stars. His boyfriend on the other hand? Not a fan. He was so self-centered and yeah he accepted Ryan and helped him through the anxiety but that was what your SUPPOSE to do when you love someone. He had very few redeeming qualities for me. I only tolerated him for Ryan. I honestly don’t know what Ryan saw in him. I can’t even remember his name right now. I just told myself if Ryan loves him there has to be something redeemable about him right??!On the bright side, Shane and Illya show up a few times, both mentioned and one very short scene with both of them that I read like 3 times. I don’t want to spoil what happened but it was very typically Shane and illya and I loved it!Another fantastic book that overall I loved very much! Thank you so much for the book and I can’t wait for the next one!P.S please please please with chocolate sprinkles release a sequel to heated rivalry!! It would make all my dreams come true!! Seriously! I loved the second book in this series, Heated Rivalry, so much. (Seriously, after reading these reviews if you HAVEN’T read Heated Rivalry yet what are you waiting for?!?). Each of the three books in this series have been really different, considering they’re all contemporary MM hockey books: Game Changer was a sweet story of a closeted NHL player falling in love, Heated Rivalry was an enemies-to-lovers between two rival NHL stars, and Tough Guy is the story of a hockey enforcer with extreme anxiety figuring out what he wants to do with his life.Ryan has anxiety. He has a clinically diagnosed anxiety disorder, and he’s in therapy and taking medication, but he’s struggling and pretty unhappy in his hockey career. A chance meeting with his high school crush Fabian gives Ryan a second chance to have something good in his life. Unlike the MCs of the previous books, Ryan is not a superstar. He’s a guy who is traded every year and expected to fight, not to play hockey. And it’s wearing on him, though he doesn’t really know what else he can do if he’s not playing hockey. He’s shy, and awkward, and incredibly sweet. Fabian is outgoing, confident, talented, and extremely self-assured. He’s attracted to Ryan DESPITE the fact that he’s a hockey player.Their relationship was interesting- I appreciated that Ryan’s issues weren’t magically cured by sex, and that there were realistic issues for them both in and out of bed. I liked how supportive and accepting Fabian was, and the fact that Ryan never once had an issue being with a small, makeup-wearing, femme guy- in fact, he was in awe of Fabian’s beauty and confidence.Ryan was a very endearing character and I rooted for his happy ending. Fabian was great, but Fabian didn’t have as much of a journey here; his big issue was whether he could get past the hockey-of-it-all.I know that Rachel Reid has several more books planned in this series, including one for Kyle (side character from Game Changer) and another book for Shane and Ilya (from Heated Rivalry). At this point I’ll read anything she writes!
